This breed has a short coat of dense and smooth fur.
Swiss Hounds are hardy and energetic dogs. These animals are also wonderful companions and become very close to their owners.
Country of Origin:
This ancient breed likely originated during the sixteenth century near the border between France and Switzerland. There are five different forms of the Swiss Hound breed and a standard was written for each one in 1882. Long used as hunting dogs, Swiss Hounds are still used in this capacity and are also kept as companion animals.
This breed is also known as the Schweizerischer Laufhund.
Swiss Hounds are calm and gentle dogs with great temperaments. Vigorous and with excellent stamina, these dogs are also great workers.
When training Swiss Hounds, firm techniques are beneficial.
This breed is quite active and energetic, and requires plenty of regular exercise.
Swiss Hounds are superb hunting and companion dogs. However, potential owners must keep in mind that these animals require plenty of space and exercise in order to keep them happy and healthy. These gentle and pleasant hounds also require regular brushing to maintain their coats.
