Halden Hounds are hardy and fast hunters with excellent endurance. These dogs are also gentle and affectionate, and are wonderful pets.
Country of Origin:
This Norwegian breed of scenthound is thought to have developed from a mixture of Swedish, German, English, and Norwegian scenthounds. The standard for the Halden Hound was established during the 1950s but even today this breed is extremely rare outside of Norway.
This breed was named for the Norwegian town of Halden and is also known as the Haldenstövare.
Halden Hounds are good-natured dogs that make excellent companions. These animals are solitary hunters rather than pack hounds.
While Halden Hounds can sometimes be distracted due to their sensitive noses, these dogs can be trained to be great hunters.
This active breed requires plenty of space and exercise.
Halden Hounds are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a great hunting dog or a wonderful canine companion. However, potential owners must keep in mind that these dogs require plenty of open space and regular exercise in order to promote and maintain their physical and mental well-being. Halden Hounds require regular grooming and, for the most part, can only be found within Norway.
