History:
The Black and Tan Coonhound is one of six American Coonhounds and was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1945. These dogs first appeared during the eighteenth century.
Name:
Also known as the American Black and Tan Coonhound and the Treeing Hound.
Temperament:
Black and Tan Coonhounds have a very even-tempered disposition. Easy-going and adaptable, these dogs are happiest when they're doing the job they were bred to do. Although cautious of strangers and unknown dogs, Black and Tan Coonhounds socialize well and like people.

Patience is required while training these dogs, as they're easily distracted by their sharp sense of smell.
Activity:
Black and Tan Coonhounds are very active dogs and are most suited to living in the country.
Ownership:
These friendly, easy-going dogs are great companions for affectionate people with a good sense of humor. They love human company and require plenty of daily exercise. While generally a healthy breed, these dogs are somewhat prone to hip dysplasia and ear problems.
