Sighthounds and Pariah Dogs.


Females weigh 45-55 pounds (20-25 kg) and males weigh 55-66 pounds (25-30 kg).


23.5-27.5 inches (60-70 cm) at the withers.


Spanish Greyhounds come in all different colours. The most popular colours for this breed include fawn, brindle, black, burnt chestnut, cinnamon, yellow, red, and white.


The Spanish Greyhound typically has a short and smooth coat of dense yet fine fur. However, the wirehaired variety has a somewhat longer coat as well as a slight beard, moustache, and a topknot.



Spanish Greyhounds are active dogs that like to run. These dogs are good hunters as well as excellent pets. Spanish Greyhounds become deeply attached to family members and are very affectionate companions.

Not a true Greyhound, this sighthound breed likely descended from the Arabian Greyhound and has been in existence for hundreds of years. Highly prized by Spanish nobility in past centuries and originally used for racing, this breed was exported to countries such as Ireland and England from the sixteenth century to the eighteenth century. These days, Spanish greyhounds are still quite commonly owned by Spanish hunters.


The Spanish Greyhound is also known as the Spanish Galgo and the Galgo Español.


Spanish Greyhounds are tough and hardy animals characterised by great dispositions. These dogs bond deeply with their owners and respond best to gentle treatment.



Spanish Greyhounds are relatively easy to train, but they require gentle training techniques.


These dogs are extremely active and need to run and exercise frequently.


Spanish Greyhounds are not suitable for apartment life and require access to open space. They also need plenty of running and exercise time every day. Spanish Greyhounds are the most affectionate of sighthounds and make great companions. These dogs don't like to be confined and require regular grooming.
