Character:
Sokokes are loving and endearing cats. Intelligent, curious, and talkative, Sokokes like to have company. These cats are also very playful and make affectionate and loving companions.
Country of Origin:
Kenya.
History:
This breed originated in Kenya where it was discovered in the Arabuko-Sokoke forest in 1978 by Jeni Slater. One of Slater's friends exported some of these cats to Denmark where she began to breed them. First shown in 1984, the Sokoke breed was officially recognized in 1993.
Name:
Named for the Arabuko-Sokoke forest on the coast of Kenya where the breed originated. Previously known as the Khadzonzos.
Temperament:
While not clingy, Sokokes form strong bonds with their owners. These sweet natured cats love to interact and talk with humans. Sokokes are sensitive cats and will often reflect the moods of their human owners.

Training:
Sokokes are highly intelligent cats and, therefore, are quite trainable.
Activity:
Sokokes are very energetic and active cats. They love to climb, play, and talk.
Ownership:
These endearing cats love to snuggle, play, and interact with humans. They are excellent companions and are ideal for households where they will have plenty of space and an audience. Since Sokokes like to have company, they do well in homes with children and other pets. Sokokes have minimal grooming requirements and are an excellent choice for families looking for feline companionship.
