Physical Characteristics

Terrier group.
Weight:
15-17 pounds (7-8 kg).
Height:
13-15 inches (33-38 cm) at the shoulders.
Color(s):
The most common color for Lakeland Terriers is red; however, standard colorings also include wheaten as well as blue and tan.
Coat:
This type of terrier has a weatherproof, double coat that consists of a wiry outer coat and a soft undercoat.

Lakeland Terriers are friendly, confident dogs. These terriers are very alert and make great watchdogs as well as charming and entertaining companions.
Country of Origin:
England.
History:
This breed was developed in England's lake district during the eighteenth century. Used by farmers to catch foxes, this working breed was standardized during the early 1900s. The Lakeland Terrier was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1934.

Temperament:
Lakeland Terriers are typically non-aggressive, outgoing animals. These dogs are intelligent, but also independent. Lakeland Terriers tend not to get along very well with other dogs or other animals.
Care
Training:
While their stubbornness may make them difficult to housebreak, Lakeland Terriers are otherwise fast learners and can be trained relatively easily.
Activity:
These dogs are quite active and require regular, daily exercise.
Ownership:
Potential owners should keep in mind that Lakeland Terriers generally don't get along well with other dogs, cats, or other pets. These dogs also tend to bark a lot, sometimes excessively. Lakeland Terriers are responsible around children and make friendly, charming companions.
