Northern group.
Weight:
Approximately 25-35 pounds.
Height:
Approximately 15-19 inches at the withers.

Karelo-Finnish Laikas come in many different shades of fawn.
Coat:
This breed has a rather short coat of thick hair that stands away from the body.
Overview
Character:
Karelo-Finnish Laikas are high-spirited and agile dogs. Lovable and friendly, these dogs are also very affectionate with their family members. Karelo-Finnish Laikas are also very sensitive to the moods of their human companions.
Country of Origin:
Russia.
History:
The smallest of Russia's Laika dogs, the Karelo-Finnish Laika has been used as a hunting dog by Russian, Finnish, and Polish peasants for many centuries. During the Second World War, many of these dogs perished from rabies and the breed nearly became extinct. However, in the 1950's, Russian cynologists were able to successfully revive the breed.
Name:
Alternative names for this breed include Finlandskaja and Karelskaja.
Temperament:
Karelo-Finnish Laikas are quite excitable and bark for even the smallest reason. While wary of strangers and typically aggressive toward unfamiliar dogs that come onto their property, Karelo-Finnish Laikas get along well with dogs of their own household and are great companions to their human family members.
Care
Training:
Due to their sensitive nature, Karelo-Finnish Laikas should always be treated very patiently during training.
Activity:
These high-spirited and energetic dogs require regular, daily exercise.
Ownership:
Karelo-Finnish Laikas are versatile hunters that particularly enjoy hunting squirrels and grouse. At the same time, these vigilant dogs make excellent watchdogs as well as very friendly and lovable family companions. It's important to remember that Karelo-Finnish Laikas are sensitive animals and should never be treated harshly.
