Country of Origin: The Flat-Coated Retriever originated in England.
History:In the 19th-century England, the Flat-Coated Retriever worked as a gamekeeper’s dog. This breed may be descended from the St John’s Newfoundland Dog, Labrador and Chesapeake Bay Retriever. The Flat-Coated Retriever suffered from a low population by the end of WWII, yet revived in the 1960’s.

Temperament:The Flat-Coated Retriever is a sweet and responsive companion. Outdoors, the breed is very active; indoors it is calm. The Flat-Coated Retriever has a stable temperament and an outgoing personality.
Care:
Training: This dog responds easily to training. Keep the training sessions short and interesting. Be aware that this pet can become bored with repetition. This breed has very good water-retrieving abilities. As a multi-talented working dog, the Flat-Coated Retriever loves to please.
Activity:The Flat-Coated Retriever requires plenty of regular exercise outdoors and enjoys swimming and hunting. Retrieving over land and water are great activities. The Flat-Coated Retriever is an excellent bird dog.
Ownership:The Flat-Coated Retriever makes a fine family pet that lives inside and exercises outside the house. Owners must be prepared to show affection and establish a personal bond with this devoted pet. Keep this breed active and stimulated to reach its physical and mental potential. The Flat-Coated Retriever behaves well towards other pets and strangers. Because of its friendly nature, the Flat-Coated Retriever makes only an adequate watchdog. This breed is not suited to apartment life. The Flat-Coated Retriever enjoys a 10-year life span.
