Scenthound group.
Weight:
Between 44-55 pounds (20-25 kg).
Height:
Males are approximately 18.5-20.5 inches (47-52 cm) at the withers, while females are 17-19 inches (44-48 cm).
Color(s):
Standard colours include red and various shades of fawn with a dark muzzle and ears.
Coat:
Bavarian Mountain Hounds have short, dense coats with a relatively harsh texture.

Character:
Bavarian Mountain Hounds are very courageous and spirited. These fast dogs are incredible hunters as well as excellent companions.
Country of Origin:
Germany.
History:
This rare breed originated in Germany and was used during the Middle Ages to track wounded game. An official association for this breed, the Bavarian Bloodhound Club, was founded in 1912. Today, most Bavarian Mountain Hounds are owned by game wardens and forest rangers.
Name:
Additional names for this breed include Bavarian Mountain Scenthound and Bayrischer Gebirgsschweisshund.
Temperament:
This calm breed is very even-tempered and docile. Bavarian Mountain Hounds form strong bonds with their owners and require patient training.
Care
Training:
As is typical of scenthounds, Bavarian Mountain Hounds require firm and patient training.
Activity:
These dogs are very active and require plenty of space and regular exercise.
Ownership:
Bavarian Mountain Hounds are not suitable for urban life, as they are hunting dogs that require open space and plenty of daily exercise. However, these dogs make great companions in addition to excellent hunters. Bavarian Mountain Hounds are best suited for experienced owners and trainers and require regular grooming.
