Country of Origin:
USA.
History:
Possibly the result of a spontaneous mutation, the first surviving American Hairless Terrier appeared amongst a litter of puppies in the United States in 1972. In 1981, they were successful and the breed was established.

American Hairless Terriers are extremely active and will enthusiastically participate in just about any activity, especially when it involves human companionship.
Ownership:
American Hairless Terriers are very friendly and loyal dogs and make excellent family companions. Due to what seems like their unlimited energy, these terriers require regular exercise and like to play and be involved with activities with their owners. Since these dogs lack hair, they can be a great choice for some individuals with allergies who wish to own a dog. However, also because of their lack of hair, American Hairless Terriers require protection from the cold in wintertime and protection from the sun during the summertime.
