Character:
American Hairless Terriers are alert, intelligent, and confident dogs. Very friendly and energetic, these terriers make enthusiastic companions. They are also very loyal and sensitive to their owners.
Country of Origin:
USA.
History:
Possibly the result of a spontaneous mutation, the first surviving American Hairless Terrier appeared amongst a litter of puppies in the United States in 1972. Liking the animal's temperament and recognizing its allergy-free potential, the owners of this first American Hairless Terrier attempted to reproduce its disposition and hairlessness. In 1981, they were successful and the breed was established.

A common nickname for this breed is AHT.
Temperament:
American Hairless Terriers are very social and tenacious dogs, some of which display a strong hunting instinct. These terriers are good guard dogs and enjoy the company of humans.

The American Hairless Terrier's intelligence and curiosity make it easy to train.
Activity:
American Hairless Terriers are extremely active and will enthusiastically participate in just about any activity, especially when it involves human companionship.
Ownership:
American Hairless Terriers are very friendly and loyal dogs and make excellent family companions. Due to what seems like their unlimited energy, these terriers require regular exercise and like to play and be involved with activities with their owners. Since these dogs lack hair, they can be a great choice for some individuals with allergies who wish to own a dog. However, also because of their lack of hair, American Hairless Terriers require protection from the cold in wintertime and protection from the sun during the summertime.
