This breed was developed in Wasilla, Alaska during the 1970s by Linda S. Spurlin and is the result of the crossing of a Siberian Husky with a smaller dog of an unknown breed. The Alaskan Klee Kai breed was released to the public in 1998 and was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1997.

Previously known as the Klee Kai.
